About 300-series stainless steels

Austenitic stainless steels gain corrosion resistance from chromium and nickel and are non-magnetic in the annealed condition. 304 covers most general-purpose work; 316 adds molybdenum for chloride and seawater service. They cannot be hardened by heat treatment and rely on cold work for higher strength.
