About 5xxx aluminum alloys

5xxx aluminum alloys are alloyed with magnesium. They are not heat-treatable and gain strength through cold work. They have the best corrosion resistance of the wrought aluminums in marine environments. 5052 covers general sheet work; 5083 and 5086 are common in shipbuilding and pressure vessels.
