What EngDatabase AI is
EngDatabase AI is an AI assistant built for engineers. It sits on top of a library of 375 engineering reference tables and 50+ deterministic calculators, and it answers engineering questions using that library as its source of truth.
Unlike a general purpose chat assistant, EngDatabase AI does not invent reference values from memory. When you ask it something that requires a specific value, such as an allowable stress, a pipe wall thickness, a unit conversion, or a motor full load amperage, it looks the value up directly in the reference tables. When you ask it to size or check something, such as a beam, a pipe, a pump, a cable, or a heat exchanger, it runs the matching calculator and returns the result.
The assistant does make reasonable engineering assumptions when you leave an input out. If you ask it to size a pump without naming a fluid it will assume water at standard conditions. If you ask for a beam check without naming a steel grade it will assume a common grade. Every assumption it uses is reported back with the answer so you can see exactly what went into the result and rerun the calculation with different assumptions if needed.
What it is good at
- Looking up engineering reference values from code based tables.
- Running sizing, checking, and conversion calculations.
- Explaining where a number came from, including the source table.
- Walking through a problem using real values instead of plausible sounding estimates.
- Talking through design options, trade offs, and alternatives.
- Searching research and documentation within engdatabase.
What it is not
- It is not a replacement for a licensed engineer. It does not sign, stamp, or take responsibility for a design.
- It is not a simulation package. It does not run finite element analysis or computational fluid dynamics.
- It is not a search engine for documents or PDFs.
- It does not invent reference values when a lookup is not in the library; it reports what is missing.
Who it is for
Practicing engineers, graduate students, and design reviewers who need quick, traceable answers grounded in real reference data. If your work involves repeatedly reaching for a reference book to look up a value or running a calculation you have run a hundred times before, the assistant is designed to shorten that loop.
How to use it
The assistant is available on every plan, including free. Open the AI assistant from the main menu, type a question in plain English, and the assistant will decide which tables to look in and which calculators to run. You can also use the database and calculators directly without the assistant, if you already know which table or tool you need.
