About malleable cast iron

Malleable iron is produced by annealing white iron castings to convert the carbon to temper-carbon nodules. The result is more ductile than gray iron and was historically used for pipe fittings, hand tools, and small machine parts. It has largely been displaced by ductile iron for new designs but is still specified for legacy applications.
